Update from ECCT amid COVID-19

Eastern and Central Community Trust is following Ministry of Health guidelines and continue to operate with caution to protect our people and the communities we serve.

We would like to reassure you that ECCT is providing support and granting as normal, despite a few changes at our office in Hastings.

Engaging with communities

For the health and safety of staff and our communities, we are ceasing face-to-face meetings for the foreseeable future.  This means it may be requested that your next meeting is switched to phone or video call.

We are currently working through all events (e.g. meetings, forums and workshops) involving our staff, trustees and our applicants and grantees, to see how these may be impacted by restrictions on travel and gatherings. We will keep lines of communication open through email and phone.

Looking after our people

All staff members who share living space with people who are required to self-isolate are asked to also self-isolate and work from home.  Visitors who have returned from overseas will also be requested to not visit ECCT offices for 14 days post travel, even if they are not exhibiting any symptoms.

Being prepared

To test our organisation’s ability to work from home (should this become necessary at any point), all staff will be involved in an ‘All Staff Work From Home Day’ on a date yet to be confirmed. On that date, our premises at 207 Nelson Street South, Hastings will be closed but we are prepared to run business as usual via virtual means. We will advise the date of this trial as soon as it is confirmed.

Granting

We are working diligently to ensure our grant making will continue. As we operate a cloud-based system, things like grant applications, payments and reporting will continue to be administered through ECCT’s Fluxx portal and all supporting information will remain available on our website.

Longer term, our granting depends on our investments – we take expert advice and we have a diverse portfolio of investments. Through good and bad years, our investment policy takes a long-term view and is designed so we have a consistent ability to grant at current levels for at least the next three years.

Funding for events: Due to the restrictions on public events and mass gatherings, it is possible that recent grants approved to support events, and future grant request to support events, may be impacted. In these instances, we’ll contact you or you are welcome to contact us directly.

We wish that you and your whānau stay safe and well.
