$44,000 comes to Tararua

A $4,000 donation for one-to-one reading assistance in schools is among a total of $44,000 being given to Tararua organisations this month by the Eastern and Central Community Trust.

The Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP) runs reading assistance as a joint venture with primary schools to provide one to one help for students with reading difficulties. REAP also provides tutor training and professional support so that schools can provide reading recovery for a greater number of children above the levels paid for from Ministry of Education funding.

The community trust donation will initially enable another 10 children to take part in reading assistance programmes.

Other donations for Tararua groups this month include a $9,000 to the Te Kohanga Reo Atawhai for safety matting and another $9,000 to the Tararua Squash Racquet Club in Pahiatua.
